I sincerely welcome you to this prestigious event held within the framework of “Baku Energy Week.”
For many years, “Baku Energy Week” has served as a key platform where the global energy agenda is shaped and where new approaches and formats of cooperation emerge. The significance of this event continues to grow each year. This is due to the fact that the world is currently undergoing a transition from the traditional energy model to a new energy system based on sustainable low-carbon development and technological innovation. Under such circumstances, Azerbaijan’s role in the global energy dialogue is becoming increasingly important.
The energy history of our country is rooted in rich traditions and significant historical achievements. As early as the 19th century, the establishment of the modern oil industry transformed Azerbaijan into one of the leading centers in the history of global energy. In the 20th century, under the leadership of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, Azerbaijan entered a period marked by the formation of international energy partnerships. In the 21st century, our country embarked on a new stage focused on the transition to green energy and the creation of a sustainable energy model.
The energy policy pursued by Azerbaijan continues to yield significant results today. This year has been marked by several important developments in the energy sector. In particular, the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Production Sharing Agreement for the Shah Deniz gas field and the 20th anniversary of the commencement of commercial gas production from this field reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s strong position in the global energy market and the successful implementation of our country’s energy strategy.
Today, the energy sector is one of the main pillars of sustainable development worldwide. Modern geopolitical developments demonstrate that ensuring reliable energy security is directly linked to the diversification of energy sources and the implementation of innovative technologies. In this regard, investments in renewable energy and low-carbon technologies are rapidly increasing. The energy transition is no longer merely an environmental issue; it has also become a factor of economic security and competitiveness.
Our country is also consistently implementing policies in the field of green energy and further strengthening its strategic position. Located at the crossroads of Eurasian energy and transport routes, Azerbaijan makes an important contribution to the development of regional energy cooperation as a reliable partner. Our key advantages include abundant energy resources, well-established infrastructure, and a high level of international trust.
Azerbaijan’s renewable energy potential creates broad opportunities for the implementation of long-term strategic goals in the field of green energy. The implementation of large-scale green energy projects in cooperation with international energy companies, as well as the expansion of the geography of natural gas exports, further strengthens our country’s role as a reliable and strategic partner in the global energy system. Azerbaijan’s leading positions in the World Economic Forum’s report on the energy transition also demonstrate the high international recognition of these achievements.
The realization of the existing renewable energy potential and the expansion of green energy opportunities are among the key strategic goals for the coming period. This approach marks the beginning of a qualitatively new stage in the energy system. At this stage, the key priorities include not only the efficient management of energy resources, but also the development of renewable energy sources, the acceleration of the green energy transition, and the implementation of modern technologies.
In particular, within the framework of large-scale reconstruction and restoration efforts in the territories liberated from occupation, the successful implementation of the “green energy zone” model has become one of the key directions of our country’s future energy strategy. The successful realization of this approach has laid the foundation for its further expansion and for the declaration of Nakhchivan as a green energy zone.
I am confident that “Baku Energy Week” will continue to make a significant contribution to the expansion of global energy dialogue, the development of new initiatives, and the building of a sustainable energy future.
