On June 4, the Baku Expo Center concluded a successful Baku Energy Week, which brought together three major energy events: the 30th Anniversary International Exhibition "Caspian Oil and Gas," the 13th Caspian International Exhibition "Energy and Green Energy," and the 30th Anniversary Baku Energy Forum.
Regarded as one of the region’s most prestigious industry events, Baku Energy Week annually draws leading figures from the global energy sector. The event is held under the patronage of Azerbaijan’s President, Ilham Aliyev, who traditionally visits the exhibition center each year.
In his opening speech at the anniversary ceremony, President Aliyev emphasized the vital role both the "Caspian Oil and Gas" exhibition and the Baku Energy Forum play in shaping Azerbaijan’s modern energy strategy and its active participation in the global energy landscape. He underlined their deep ties to the country’s energy development history and its growing role in international energy cooperation.
The President also highlighted the impressive expansion of Azerbaijan’s natural gas exports, which now reach twelve countries—and that number continues to rise. From a geographic perspective, Azerbaijan stands among the world’s leaders in the global reach of its pipeline gas distribution.
This year’s exhibition once again provided a dynamic platform for signing agreements that collectively represent several hundred megawatts of green energy capacity. Despite its wealth in oil and gas resources, Azerbaijan is making significant investments in renewable energy alongside international partners, reflecting its commitment to sustainability. These ventures not only enhance Azerbaijan’s energy security but also contribute to the energy stability of other nations, solidifying the country’s geopolitical importance. At COP29, Azerbaijan also announced a dedicated financial package for Small Island Developing States (SIDS), showcasing the country’s commitment to supporting those in need.
Throughout Baku Energy Week, a series of memoranda of understanding were signed to strengthen long-term partnerships. These agreements, forged in cooperation with partner countries and leading global companies, play a key role in ensuring Azerbaijan’s energy future and facilitating its transition to green energy. Among the agreements signed was a land lease deal between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Universal Solar Azerbaijan LLC, which will pave the way for future renewable energy projects. In addition, a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement was signed with China Energy Engineering Corporation Limited, focusing on energy sector collaboration, while another agreement brought amendments to the cooperation memorandum on energy transition with Maire Tecnimont S.p.A. Further contracts included power purchase and grid connection agreements between Azerenerji OJSC and Enerso Cəbrayıl LLC for the "Ufuk" solar power plant project, and a balancing agreement between Azerenerji, Norm OJSC, and Enerso Cəbrayıl for the "Ufuk" and "Shams" solar power plants. Moreover, agreements were also signed between Azerenerji OJSC and Clean Energy Jabrayil LLC for the "Shams" solar power plant, as well as with Universal Solar Azerbaijan for the "Gobustan" solar station project.
The 30th Anniversary Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition showcased a broad spectrum of key sectors, from oil and gas field development, transportation, and production, to telecommunications, IT, refining, construction, and innovative technologies. Attendees explored cutting-edge advances in artificial intelligence, decarbonization, drilling, and the production and storage of both petroleum and non-gas-related products.
SOCAR, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan, occupied a prominent position at the exhibition. As a strategic player in exporting national resources to global markets, SOCAR is also at the forefront of climate action, prioritizing clean, low-carbon, and advanced technologies.
A VIP tour highlighted exhibitions from industry giants, including BP Azerbaijan, Türkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortaklığı (TPAO), Italian firm Maire Tecnimont, MOL Group headquartered in Budapest, the German National Pavilion, Russia’s Tatneft, China’s Sinopec SJ Petroleum Machinery Co., Uzbekistan’s Uzbekneftegaz, UAE’s Masdar, the American Schlumberger (SLB), Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power, and France’s TotalEnergies. Leading companies occupied nearly 40% of the exhibition space, underscoring the event’s status as a key platform for industry players worldwide.
SOCAR served as the general partner of Baku Energy Week. The event’s participants, partners, and sponsors included a host of global heavyweights such as ABB, ACWA Power, Azfen, AZEL Systems LLC, Baku Steel Company, BP, CIM, Gap İnşaat, HMS Group, HUAWEI, Inpex, INTI, iMotors, Kolin İnşaat, Masdar, MOL Group, MVM, NewMed Energy, Saipem, Pasha Bank, SLB, Türkiye Petrolleri AO, TotalEnergies, Tekfen İnşaat ve Tesisat, Ural Steel, and XRG.
As part of the week’s activities, children from the inclusive society “Ümid var” exhibited their artwork, which beautifully adorned the evening reception, culminating in a charity auction of their creations.
Baku Energy Week events were held with the support of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The event was organized by Iteca Caspian alongside their international partners ICA Events and CEM FZ LLC.
